9 Reasons to Read “Complex Age” Manga

Plot:

Meet Nagisa, is a 26 year old, cosplaying in secret. She spends her days  as an average temp-worker and her nights preparing for cosplay events.  With 9 years of cosplaying under her belt, she is highly respected in the cosplay community.  However she keeps it a secret, because “normal” people will just view her hobby as a silly fantasy.  Fears build up as she considers whether or not she is getting too old for her passion and witnesses younger formidable cosplayers rise up the ranks only intensifies this.  Should Nagisa continue cosplaying or be “normal”.

9 Reasons To Read Complex Age Manga Series

1. You Want To Learn More About Cosplay?

The series spends a considerable amount of time with her getting ready for cosplay events, attending them, and teaching newbies how its done. So if you wanted to learning more about cosplay and read a great story Complex Age is a good place to start.

2. Mature Manga

This series is about adults and adult problems. The world isn’t all sparkly, with rainbows and butterflies. The world isn’t extremely dark with evil villains and gore, either. Complex Age is firmly set in reality.

3. Relatable Situations

Nagisa is a 26 year old trying to balance work and her passion for cosplay. In this series we witness her attempts to overcome her insecurities over her body and age. She realizes that she is slowly becoming less ideal for cosplay the older she gets, especially since she typically dresses as younger girls. Moreover, Nagisa wants to keep her cosplaying hobby a secret because a lot of people just wont understand. All in all, this is really relatable. The series doesn’t pretend that the world is completely accepting, and even though Nagisa is formidable, it doesn’t hide her flaws. I could imagine there are a lot of “Nagisas” out there.

4. For the Drama

The overall tone for Complex Age is serious and very realistic. Although, I like series that are more well-rounded, I can respect a series that can push the drama button a little harder. Series like these will make you  analyze yourself a little more and reflect on your past and future. It kind of forces you to be more honest with yourself, as a result. Complex Age does all of this and that’s all the more reason to give this a read.

5. Cute/ Hot Character Designs

6. For The Passion

Nagisa is so passionate about cosplay, so it is quite the sight to see. She makes her own costumes and studies her characters thoroughly. Nagisa does whatever it takes to present herself perfectly. She is so passionate that she gets frustrated when others are half-assed. Watching passionate people is so entertaining!

7. It’s Inspiring!

Witnessing the passion of the characters, their courage to do what they love and the time they spend to make it happen is just so inspiring! It makes me want to try new things and learn more about my likes, loves and passions.

8. It’s Not OVERLY Serious

Even though the series is a drama, it manages to lighten up the read with some elements of humor.  Plus, the introduction of fun and light hearted characters helps to brighten up the narrative a bit. So, you wont find yourself getting burned out of all the problems that come up in mature manga. As a result, this book is a quick read.

9. Great Pacing Overall

Complex Age is paced very well. Since the story is realistic, it unfolds naturally. Furthermore, the addition of new characters gives breathing space to the main plot. Plus, Complex Age takes time to explain cosplay to the inexperienced, but it doesn’t dump too much info within the story. More info is at the end of the manga for those who want to dig a little deeper.

Give it a read for yourself!
